Low-Content E-Books on Amazon

I loved the idea of creating journals and planners and earning passive income while I slept. And for a while, it worked. Then my account was terminated for using the wrong keywords. Just like that, gone. It was a hard lesson in understanding platform rules, and one I will not forget.

Online Tutoring

As a secondary school English teacher, tutoring seemed like the obvious side hustle. And it paid well. But here is the problem: I went into side hustles because I wanted something different, not more of the same. Tutoring kept me tethered to the job I was quietly trying to move away from.

Dropshipping

I dabbled. I learned. I moved on. Dropshipping requires a level of ongoing logistics and supplier management that simply did not excite me. Without that excitement, it was hard to stay committed.

Renting My Home to Students

This one brought in decent money, but it also brought in a lot of responsibility. Managing a rental property is not exactly the freedom-based lifestyle I had in mind.

Selling on eBay

Fun at first. Practical, even. But it has a ceiling, and at some point the time-to-income ratio stopped making sense for what I was trying to build.

So What Changed?

What I eventually realised is that I was not looking for just any side hustle. I was looking for one that felt like me. One that used my skills, matched my lifestyle, and gave me something to genuinely care about.

That is when I found selling digital products, and more specifically, building a content-based business around them.

• I work from home, or wherever I happen to be.

• I earn money that does not depend on whether I show up that day.

• And most importantly: I have found real purpose beyond parenting.

That last point matters more than I expected. As an empty nester, I did not just want extra income. I wanted something that made me feel like myself again, capable, useful, and excited about what was ahead.

What This Means for You
